Physiotherapy is used to improve or maintain physical abilities.

An assessment consists of a subjective assessment first and foremost. This is where you get to tell us all about the problem you have and we’ll ask for as much detail as you have. Sometimes people prefer to be asked specific questions and that’s fine too! We will always ask things like:

  • How long have you had this pain/discomfort/restriction?
  • Can you think of a reason it may have been triggered? (Sometimes this is something obvious like falling over, sometimes it’s less obvious, like changing cars and having a different style of seat!)
  • What is the pattern of pain like? Is it constant or does it come and go?
  • Do you get any associated pain anywhere else?
  • Has it got better, worse or the same since it started?

We will also ask for your medical history, if you are on any medications, and a social history. This includes things like what you do for work and what hobbies you have.

The more we know about you the more we can tailor our physical assessment and subsequently your rehab programme. We’ve certainly found over the years that the more specific and personal we can make it, the better the results our patients get!

The objective assessment will follow, and this is where we assess things like range of movement, flexibility and strength of muscles, and functional ability (for example, if you tell us that picking things up off the floor is painful for you, then we’ll build this into our assessment so we can start to work out why it might be causing you pain and what we can do about it).

During and after the assessments we’ll give you a clear explanation of what we’ve found, and what the best course of action will be going forward.

Follow up appointments are encouraged so that we can see how you are responding to the treatment, and progress or regress the treatments to ensure you are getting the most out of your rehab.

We do not offer bulk discounts for blocks of sessions, because we want people to get back to normal as quickly as possible, not dragged out to fit the pre-arranged 6, 8 or 12 sessions that some places seem to offer!

We also offer sports and deep tissue massage, as well as acupuncture and sports/kinesiology taping.

Q Can I have a Virtual Assessment from home?

Yes! This has been something new to offer since lockdown, but it's had such great results that we're keeping it as a service for the foreseeable future

Q What can physio help with?

Pretty much any ache, pain or injury you may have!
We're an autonomous profession (which means we can diagnose) and can liaise with your GP or other healthcare professional to get you the best possible treatment, as soon as possible.

Q Do I need to get a doctors referral before I book an appointment?

No. You can book straight in with us. We're trained to spot 'red flags' which are indicative of medical emergencies, so if you need to be referred for an urgent GP appointment or to be seen in A&E we won't waste any time in referring you onwards, and will provide you with a letter to show our findings and reason for referral.

Q I've had physio before and was given a generic sheet of exercises, is this going to be the same?

You don't 'have' physio, you 'do' physio.
Physiotherapy treatment can be one or a combination of manual therapy, prescribed exercises, massage, neuromuscular exercise, mobilisation and manipulations.
No two treatment plans are the same, every physical body reacts and responds differently to different stimuli so your treatment plan will be tailored to you, with a full explanation of why and what to expect as you progress.
If your 'generic exercises' didn't work for you before, then we'll try something different. What we expect in return is 100% commitment from you to achieving your goals!
